Usually yes, as a spare card, and usually no as your main one. That is the honest answer to the question existing DBS customers ask most. A lifetime-free Spark costs nothing to hold, comes with a decent limit in many cases, and gives you BookMyShow and lounge perks. But the base earn on every Spark variant is 2 Cash Points per ₹200, and one point is worth up to ₹0.20. That is about 0.2%. Put ₹50,000 of ordinary spending on it and you earn roughly ₹100.
So the card only earns properly once you clear its monthly milestone, and that depends on which variant you have.
DBS sells Spark in three variants, and search results often mix them. Check the name on your offer before you trust any number.
At ₹0.20 a point, 5X is about 1%, 10X about 2% and 20X about 4%.
Say you spend ₹14,000 offline in a month on Spark5. You clear the ₹10,000 gate, so the 5X rate applies. If it covers the month's offline spend, as we read the terms, you earn around 140 base points and roughly 560 accelerated points, or about ₹140 in value. Check the MITC for exactly which spends the multiplier covers. Spend ₹9,000 instead and you miss the gate: about 90 points, worth ₹18.
Then there is the ₹99 + GST fee each time you redeem. On a balance worth a few hundred rupees, that fee takes a large share. Let points build up and redeem rarely.
Users who compare the variants see Spark5 as mostly useless beyond basic merchant offers, next to Spark20. If your spending regularly clears ₹20,000 a month and leans on bills, groceries and eating out, Spark20 is the only variant whose rates can justify a fee.
The complaint users call a dealbreaker is not about rewards. Four threads describe DBS asking for an in-person branch visit for KYC when a card gets blocked or flagged. DBS has few branches outside large cities, so if you live far from one, a blocked card can stay blocked. Two threads also mention the DBS Card+ app asking users to remove apps like Zoom or Discord before it opens. Our sentiment data comes from 12 threads, so treat these as user reports.
Take it if it is lifetime free and you bank with DBS near a branch. Use it for BookMyShow (save up to ₹200 on the second ticket), the lounge visits and the odd merchant offer.
Do not pay a fee for Spark5 or Spark10 to earn rewards. For everyday online spending, users point to the Cashback SBI Credit Card instead, and the credit card fee waiver guide explains how to push back on a fee you did not expect.
