Recommendation
₹499 + GST to join and each year. The ₹199 + GST figure on IDFC's page is the fee to activate UPI, not the card fee.
This page is about SWYP only, not FIRST Select, FIRST Power, FIRST Millennia or FIRST Wealth.
SWYP counts your spend in each statement month and pays points when you cross ₹5,000, ₹10,000, ₹15,000, ₹30,000 or ₹60,000. The tiers are not added together. Reach ₹30,000 and you get the ₹30,000 payout, not the sum of every tier below it. Each point is worth ₹0.25, since 4,000 points equal ₹1,000.
So the best case is ₹1,000 on ₹60,000, about 1.7%. Lower tiers pay less, and a month that ends at ₹29,000 earns only the ₹15,000 payout. If your spending swings from month to month, you will often land just below a tier. Plan big purchases into one statement month to clear the next level.
Users also report a ₹99 + GST fee each time you redeem points. Redeem in large batches, or the fee eats a lot of what you earned.
Not directly. SWYP itself is a Visa card, and credit card UPI in India works only on RuPay. IDFC handles this with a separate RuPay virtual card linked to SWYP, which costs ₹199 + GST to activate. That ₹199 is the "other fee" people see on IDFC's page; it is not a second card fee.
Once linked, UPI spends earn 100 points per ₹5,000 in a statement month, which is ₹25, or 0.5%. Useful for scanning at shops, but not a reason to get the card on its own.
Users single out one more: a movie discount on a single ticket, where other IDFC cards need you to buy two.
Apply if this is your first card, you will spend ₹15,000 or more most months, and you will actually use the solo movie offer, railway lounges or 0% forex abroad.
Skip it if you already hold a lifetime-free IDFC card. Users who were offered SWYP as an upgrade from FIRST Select or FIRST Power+ mostly stayed put. Also be wary of agents promising a free premium IDFC card; three threads describe SWYP turning up instead. If this would be your first card and you are still choosing, our first credit card guide compares the usual starting options.
