Kiwi Credit Card

Frequently Asked Questions

Add it in a UPI app such as Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm or CRED by choosing "RuPay credit card" as the payment method, then set a UPI PIN. It works for paying merchants through QR codes.

A ₹15,000 month of QR payments

Say you scan QR codes with this card for ₹15,000 a month: ₹8,000 at the grocery store and restaurants, ₹2,000 on electricity and phone bills, and ₹5,000 everywhere else.

  • Groceries and dining at 3%: 240 CashPoints.
  • Utilities at 2%: 40 CashPoints.
  • Everything else at 1%: 50 CashPoints.

That is 330 CashPoints. At about ₹0.25 each, you get roughly ₹82 back, a little over 0.5%. The "3%" on the brochure is CashPoints, not rupees, so it works out to about 0.75% in real money.

That sounds small, and it is. But this card is not really a rewards card. It is HDFC's way to put everyday UPI payments on credit, so they earn something, sit on a credit bill you pay later, and stay off your savings account statement.

This page covers HDFC's card only. Kotak sells a card with almost the same name; see the Kotak UPI RuPay Credit Card.

The ₹99 fee, and the Lifetime Free offers people get

HDFC's product page lists ₹99 + GST in the first year and ₹99 + GST at renewal, with the renewal fee waived on ₹25,000 of annual spend. That is about ₹2,083 a month, easy if you use it for daily UPI.

Many Reddit threads, though, describe HDFC offering this card Lifetime Free to existing cardholders by email or in the app. If you get that offer, keep it in writing. If you are paying ₹117, the waiver is the plan, not the rewards.

Does it share your HDFC card's limit?

Usually, yes. Holders of Swiggy HDFC and MoneyBack+ say their UPI RuPay card shares one limit with the existing card, and it often arrives as a virtual card you access through HDFC's MyCards site. One user asks how to get a physical card because the site is buggy. Plan on a digital-first card that splits the limit you already have.

Rupay credit card UPI charges, and where it gets refused

Users say the cost of a credit-on-UPI payment sits with the merchant as an MDR fee, and that is the problem they run into. Across RuPay-on-UPI threads, people report small shops turning off credit on their QR codes or refusing payments above about ₹2,000. Keep your savings account UPI as a backup.

A few other rules:

  • Payments under ₹100 earn nothing.
  • Fuel, rent, EMI, insurance, government, education and wallet loads earn nothing.
  • Each bucket caps at 500 CashPoints a calendar month, about ₹125.
  • Our data lists a ₹99 fee per redemption, so redeem in batches.

The bottom line on HDFC UPI RuPay

Take it if HDFC offers it Lifetime Free, or if you will clear ₹25,000 a year anyway. It is a sensible way to move tea-stall and grocery scans onto credit without carrying another full card.

Skip it if you want real rewards on UPI. Users who scan a lot tend to prefer Kiwi for direct cashback, and our HDFC UPI RuPay benefits guide covers the fine print.
