Frequently Asked Questions

Not based on spending, as far as our data shows. You pay ₹3,000 + GST each year and get 1,500 EDGE Miles on each anniversary; new Burgundy accounts get the card with no fee.

The ₹1,000 first-swipe rule

Before anything else: your very first transaction on the Axis Horizon card decides whether you get the 5,000 EDGE Miles welcome bonus. It has to be ₹1,000 or more, and it has to happen within 30 days of the card being issued. Users report that a small test swipe or any other sub-₹1,000 transaction that posts first makes you ineligible for good, and Axis does not give a second chance.

Get that right and Horizon is one of the more practical mid-tier travel cards in India. One popular Reddit thread calls it "practical, decent, boring", and people mean it kindly. This is Axis Bank's Horizon, not the Axis Atlas, even though both earn EDGE Miles.

What ₹3,000 a year buys you

The joining and annual fee is ₹3,000 + GST, about ₹3,540 a year. It is nil for new Burgundy accounts. There is no spend-based renewal waiver in our data, so plan to pay it. What you get back:

  • 5,000 EDGE Miles in year one, then 1,500 EDGE Miles on each anniversary (not on lifetime-free cards).
  • 5 EDGE Miles per ₹100 on the Axis Travel EDGE portal and direct airline websites.
  • 2 EDGE Miles per ₹100 on other spends. Fuel earns nothing; it only gets a 1% surcharge waiver on ₹400 to ₹5,000, capped at ₹400 a month.
  • Most travel partners take EDGE Miles at 1:1.

A Reddit thread from a holder put it simply: the 5,000 welcome miles plus 1,500 at renewal cover roughly the first two years of fees if you transfer them well. We do not publish a fixed rupee value per mile, because it depends on the partner and the redemption.

Visa or Mastercard changes your lounge count

Horizon comes on two networks, and the choice matters. Visa gives 8 domestic lounge visits a quarter (32 a year). Mastercard gives 6 a quarter (24 a year). Both get 2 international visits a calendar quarter. There is no spend target for any of them, which is the single thing users praise most after the welcome bonus.

If lounges are why you want the card, ask for Visa when you apply.

Where the miles do not come

Two complaints keep coming up:

  • Not every "travel" spend earns 5X. A June 2026 thread reports ₹7,000 of RedBus bus tickets earning no EDGE Miles at all. Older threads also say 5X worked only through Travel EDGE. Axis's current page lists Travel EDGE and direct airline websites, so stick to those two and check your statement after the first booking.
  • International lounges are patchy. Users describe Priority Pass registration errors and card swipes rejected at foreign lounges. Register before you travel and carry a backup card on long trips.

Users also report a 3.5% markup on dynamic currency conversion. Pay in local currency abroad, and check the MITC for the regular forex rate, which is not in our data.

Our take on Axis Horizon

Get Horizon if you fly domestic a few times a quarter, want up to 32 lounge visits with no spend target, and like the idea of moving miles 1:1 to an airline or hotel programme. It is a sensible pick for an Axis Burgundy customer, since the fee is nil there.

Skip it if you want the best miles on direct airline spends and can hit milestones (Atlas does that better), or if you travel abroad often and want lounge access that just works. For broader context on Axis cards, see our Axis Bank credit cards guide.
