Frequently Asked Questions

Up to 85% of the fixed deposit you place with IDBI. The minimum FD is ₹20,000, or an equivalent FCNR deposit, so the smallest limit is about ₹17,000.

A card you get by locking up ₹20,000

The IDBI Imperium Platinum is for someone banks keep turning down: an 18-year-old, a student, or anyone rebuilding a damaged credit score. You open an IDBI fixed deposit of at least ₹20,000, and IDBI gives you a Visa card with a limit of up to 85% of that FD.

That is the whole point of the card. It is a credit-building tool with a small reward programme attached, not a rewards card with a deposit attached.

What the FD lien means for your money

Your deposit keeps earning FD interest, but it sits under a lien while the card is active. You cannot break it for an emergency.

  • A ₹20,000 FD gives you a limit of up to ₹17,000.
  • You still pay the monthly bill from your own savings. The FD is only the bank's fallback if you do not pay, and missed payments still show up on your credit report.
  • Want to close the FD? You usually have to clear dues and close the card first, then ask IDBI in writing to release the lien.
  • Cash withdrawals are allowed up to 70% of your credit limit.

Delight Points at ₹150 a step

The card earns 2 Delight Points per ₹150, about 1.33 points per ₹100. Spends under ₹150 may earn nothing. IDBI does not state what one point is worth in rupees in our record, so we do not publish an effective rate.

The bonus points do more work than the base rate. Here is a ₹2,00,000 first year:

  • Base spends: about 2,667 points.
  • Activation and first ₹1,500 spend: 1,000 points.
  • ₹1,00,000 and ₹2,00,000 milestones: 2,500 points.

That is about 6,167 points. Check the Delight catalogue before you treat that as real money. You also get a 1% fuel surcharge waiver, capped at ₹300 a month.

Two costs that catch people

The ₹499 annual fee is waived once your yearly spend crosses ₹75,000, about ₹6,250 a month. Older listings quote ₹1,00,000; the bank page says ₹75,000.

The bigger trap is the ₹999 charge if you close the card within a year of issue. Do not apply as a stopgap you plan to drop in three months. More on waivers in our credit card fee waiver guide.

What holders say about IDBI's systems

Reddit talk about this exact card is thin. Most threads are about IDBI cards in general. The common complaints are an outdated app and portal, slow service that sends you to a branch, and bill payments that show as outstanding or autopay that does not sync. Pay a few days early and keep the payment reference.

Does IDBI Imperium Platinum earn its place in your wallet?

Apply if you have no credit history, can spare ₹20,000 for a year or two, and live near an IDBI branch. Use it lightly and pay in full, and the record you build can help you qualify for an unsecured card later.

Skip it if you already qualify for an unsecured starter card, or if you want an FD-backed card with no annual fee and a smoother app. Our beginner credit card picks list both kinds.
