Frequently Asked Questions

Apply on Kotak's Kotak 811 Credit Card product page. Make sure the form names this Visa card and not the FD-backed 811 #DreamDifferent.

Who Kotak 811 is really for

The Kotak 811 Credit Card is for someone who wants a plain, low-fee Visa card and will put about ₹4,200 a month on it to keep it free. It is not a rewards card and not a travel card, and it is not the card most people mean when they say "Kotak 811".

That second card is the 811 #DreamDifferent Credit Card, which you open against a fixed deposit in the 811 app. Most reviews and Reddit posts about "Kotak 811" are about that FD card, or about the 811 Super debit card. Do not plan around FD-card features, such as an FD-backed limit or RuPay UPI, on this Visa card.

₹500 a year, or nothing at ₹50,000

The joining fee and annual fee are ₹500 + GST each. From year two, Kotak waives the annual fee if you spent ₹50,000 in the previous anniversary year. Year one still costs ₹590 with GST. Spend ₹3,000 in the first 30 days and you get 500 bonus points, which offsets part of that.

What the points look like on Kotak 811

You earn 2 points per ₹100 online and 1 point per ₹100 offline. Kotak's page does not state what a point is worth in rupees. If it is somewhere between ₹0.10 and ₹0.25, a month with ₹15,000 online and ₹5,000 offline earns 350 points, worth roughly ₹35 to ₹88. That is an illustration, not a bank figure.

Since 1 June 2025, a long list of spends earns nothing:

  • Education, wallet loads, fuel and rent
  • Government payments and insurance
  • Online skill-based gaming

Utility bills earn points only on the first ₹35,000 in each statement cycle.

The perks that matter more than points

For most light users, the PVR milestone beats a year of base points. Spend ₹75,000 in an anniversary year and you get 3 PVR tickets worth ₹1,200. They arrive after the year closes, not the month you cross the line.

You also get a 1% fuel surcharge waiver on fills of ₹500 to ₹4,000, capped at ₹3,500 a calendar year, and a 1.8% railway surcharge waiver on IRCTC. There is no airport lounge access and no UPI on this card.

Where Kotak 811 fits, and where it does not

It is worth it if Kotak is already your bank, you watch films at PVR, and the card will be your main spend card. You will clear ₹50,000 easily and pay nothing after year one.

If you have no credit history or income proof, the FD-backed 811 #DreamDifferent or IDFC FIRST WOW suits you better. If you want real cashback from Kotak, look at Cashback+.
