Frequently Asked Questions

Users report it can, and some closed the co-brand first. Others got a core card anyway, so ask HDFC before you apply.

Paytm HDFC Select in three lines

  • 5% on Paytm recharges, bills, travel, movies and Mini Apps, plus 3% on Swiggy, AJIO, BigBasket and Uber.
  • 8 domestic lounge visits a calendar year for a ₹1,000 + GST fee, which is rare at this price.
  • The catch users raise is not the rewards. It is that a Paytm co-brand can get in the way of a core HDFC card later.

This is the top Paytm card from HDFC. It is not the ₹500 Paytm Credit Card, the ₹149 Paytm HDFC Digital card, or the Paytm SBI Card SELECT, which is a different bank with different rules.

Two buckets, two ceilings

Rewards arrive as CashPoints, and each bonus bucket has a monthly limit:

  • 5% on Paytm spends stops at 1,500 CashPoints a month, which you reach at ₹30,000.
  • 3% on Swiggy, AJIO, BigBasket and Uber stops at 500 CashPoints, reached at about ₹16,700.
  • Everything else earns 1%. Our record does not state a cap here.

Our record does not confirm what one CashPoint is worth in rupees, so the maths below assumes ₹1. Users report that redemption runs through Paytm points or vouchers rather than straight statement credit, so check the options on your first statement.

A Paytm-heavy month

Say you pay ₹6,000 of electricity, phone and DTH bills through Paytm, spend ₹4,000 on Swiggy and BigBasket, and put ₹10,000 on everything else. That earns 300 + 120 + 100, so 520 CashPoints. Over a year that is about 6,240, more than five times the ₹1,180 fee with GST, before you count the lounges.

The point is that the 5% only works if your bills and bookings actually go through the Paytm app. Pay the same bills on your bank's website and they lose the 5%.

Getting the ₹1,000 back

  • The joining fee is waived if you spend ₹50,000 in the first 90 days.
  • The renewal fee is waived on ₹1.5 lakh of non-EMI spend in a year, about ₹12,500 a month.
  • There is also a ₹500 quarterly voucher milestone. EMI and rent do not count toward it, and our record does not give the spend needed.

Other extras: a 1% fuel surcharge waiver on fills of ₹400 or more, up to ₹500 a statement cycle, and up to 20% off at Dineout partner restaurants.

The core-card question

This is the top worry in our sentiment report. Users say holding a Paytm HDFC co-brand made it harder to get Millennia or Regalia Gold, and some closed the co-brand and waited before applying. Others report getting a core card within weeks of a co-brand, so this is a risk, not a fixed rule. Users also report that co-brands are left out of HDFC's instant discounts in big Amazon and Flipkart sales, and that limit increases are slow.

The bottom line on Paytm HDFC Select

Yes, if most of your bills, recharges and travel already go through Paytm and you will use some of the 8 lounge visits. At ₹6,000 a month of Paytm spend it pays its fee about three times over, if a CashPoint is worth ₹1.

No, if you are planning a long-term HDFC portfolio. Users who compared the two preferred HDFC Millennia for its core status and sale eligibility, and SBI Cashback for flat statement cashback without app lock-in.
