Yes, if your card was onboarded after 1 September 2021. RBL's product page lists no joining fee and no annual fee for the current version. Cards issued before that date can still be billed ₹500 + GST a year, so check your onboarding date if a fee shows up.
The part that trips people up is the name. Paisabazaar sells two RBL cards: this free Duet and the paid PaisaBazaar Duet Plus at ₹1,499 + GST. Many Reddit complaints describe being told the card was free, and in most of those stories the card that arrived was Duet Plus.
The card does one thing. It pays 1% cashback on eligible retail and online spends, up to ₹500 per calendar month. There are no points, no accelerated categories and no milestones. Older listings that show BookMyShow 1+1 or 10X grocery points are describing a different card.
What the cap means in rupees:
Cashback lands on your card account within about two weeks and reduces your bill. There is nothing to redeem and no redemption fee.
The exclusion list is long: fuel, utilities, insurance, rent, education, wallet loads, railways, government services, cash and Bills2Pay all earn 0%. If you are not sure how a merchant codes, check it on the Monzy MCC finder before you count on the 1%.
This is the biggest story in the sentiment, and it is about the sales process, not the card. Users report repeated calls from Paisabazaar, hard credit enquiries they say they did not clearly approve, and the switch to Duet Plus described above. Some also report starting limits around ₹25,000, even with higher limits elsewhere.
Before you share an OTP on a sales call, ask which exact card is being applied for and whether a credit enquiry will run. When the kit arrives, read the product name on the welcome letter. If it says Duet Plus and you did not ask for it, do not activate it, and ask RBL in writing to cancel.
People who keep the card use it in a narrow way. It is a free RBL card, so users report it qualifies for RBL instant discounts during Amazon and Flipkart sales. Others park a small subscription on it to keep the account active and build a credit history. Forex is 3.5% in our data, so leave it at home when you travel.
Take it if you want a free starter card or a spare RBL card for sale-day discounts, and you have confirmed it is the free Duet. Expect about ₹100 back on ₹10,000 of eligible spend.
Skip it as a main card. 1% with a long exclusion list is weak next to free or low-fee cashback cards, and Duet Plus is only worth its fee if you fill its 2.5% travel and dining bucket every month.
