Frequently Asked Questions

Good if you get it lifetime free and travel abroad, for its unlimited lounges and 2% forex. At ₹12,500 + GST a year it is hard to justify, because it pays no points on everyday spends.

The catch: no points on everyday spends

Kotak White Reserve costs ₹12,500 + GST a year and does not pay reward points on each purchase. Its value comes from annual White Pass milestones, which Kotak describes as worth "up to ₹2.5 lakh annually", plus lounges, golf and Club Marriott. Below the first milestone, your return on spending is zero.

That is why the card splits opinion so sharply. Users who get it lifetime free through Kotak Privy League or an employer tie-up call it a fine card to hold. Users who would pay the fee mostly say no. If you are being offered it, the first thing to find out is which fee is being waived.

This page covers White Reserve only. Kotak White is the cheaper ₹3,000 sibling, and Kotak lets you hold only one active White-family card. If you hold both, White Pass is not credited.

"Zero joining fee" is not "lifetime free"

This is the most common question in recent threads. A zero joining fee offer waives the first ₹12,500 only. The renewal fee still arrives unless the offer letter says lifetime free. Users also report the annual fee being charged earlier than they expected in the first card year.

Our data does not hold a confirmed spend-based fee waiver. An older dataset of ours listed ₹10 lakh of annual spend, but we have not confirmed it, so do not plan around it. Ask your relationship manager for the renewal terms in writing before you accept.

How the milestones play out

Kotak has not given us the tier table, so we cannot show a per-rupee rate. What users report is this:

  • Spend across most merchant categories counts toward milestones, which suits people with large, irregular expenses.
  • People who do hit the milestones estimate an effective return of about 1.5% to 2%.
  • Progress shows in the rewards section of the Kotak app; call customer care if it does not.

So a holder spending ₹5 lakh a year who earns about 1.5% gets roughly ₹7,500 of value, less than the ₹12,500 fee before GST. The card only pays for itself in rewards at much higher spend, or when the fee is waived.

What the fee buys on the travel side

  • Unlimited complimentary lounge access at 1,000+ airports worldwide, per our data. Guests and visits beyond the allowance cost US$35 each.
  • A 2% forex markup, lower than the 3.5% most Indian cards charge.
  • Two complimentary golf rounds a month at select courses, primary cardholder only.
  • Club Marriott membership, with up to 25% off food and drink bills in India.
  • A concierge for bookings and reservations, which users rate as hit and miss.

One warning: several users report that complimentary lounge access now needs ₹50,000 of spend in a quarter. Our record still says unlimited with no condition. If lounges are your reason for taking the card, confirm this first.

The card is issued on Visa. Kotak says a RuPay variant is available on request; ask before you accept if you want credit card UPI.

Is Kotak White Reserve worth the effort?

Take White Reserve if Kotak offers it truly lifetime free and you travel abroad: unlimited lounges and 2% forex are worth having at zero cost. Kotak Privy customers and employees on corporate tie-ups get this offer most often.

At ₹12,500 a year, the case is weak. Users who want rewards on every rupee at this fee level prefer HDFC Infinia, and those choosing between free corporate offers often pick Axis Select for everyday perks. More on the issuer in our Kotak credit cards guide.
