What helps at 620 is a waste of time at 740. Enter your CIBIL score and get the exact move for your band, not generic advice that ignores where you actually stand.
There's no single number, because every issuer sets its own floor. As a working rule, 750 and above clears almost every product at the best rate, 700–749 gets entry and mid-tier cards approved but not the front-page rate, 650–699 usually needs an existing relationship with that bank, and below 650 an FD-backed card is the realistic route in. For the exact minimum each major issuer (HDFC, SBI, ICICI, Axis and the rest) actually approves at, see our minimum CIBIL score guide.
Faster than most people expect, if utilisation is the problem. Since lenders now report to the bureau every 15 days, paying a card down from a high balance to under 30% before the statement date (not the due date) can show up as a genuine move within one or two cycles. A damaged file with a settlement or write-off on it moves much slower, typically 12 to 24 months, because that mark stays visible for up to seven years regardless of what else you do. Our 90-day fast plan and the full 12-month rebuild cover both speeds in detail.
