Frequently Asked Questions

₹999 + GST to join and ₹999 + GST each year. Kotak waives the annual fee if you spend ₹2 lakh in an anniversary year.

Biz Edge or plain Kotak Biz?

Kotak sells two business cards with almost the same name, and people mix them up. Kotak Biz is the cheaper Visa card, at ₹299 to join and ₹499 a year in our records, with 4 points per ₹100 on travel, lodging and supermarkets. Biz Edge, the card on this page, costs ₹999 + GST a year, comes on RuPay or Visa, and pays 5X on business essentials, flights and hotels.

There is also Kotak Solitaire Business, a third, separate card. If your relationship manager just says "Kotak Biz card", ask which of the three they mean.

What one point is really worth

Kotak's product page confirms the base rate: 2 Reward Points per ₹150 on other retail spends, and 1 point is worth ₹0.25 on Kotak Unbox. That makes the base rate about 0.33%, which is low.

The 5X rate is where the card earns its fee, but Kotak does not say what the 5X multiplies. If it is five times the base, you earn 10 points per ₹150, or about 1.67%. Treat that as our reading and ask Kotak to confirm.

A worked month on that reading: ₹50,000 on business essentials earns about 3,333 points, worth roughly ₹833. The same ₹50,000 at the base rate earns about ₹167. Kotak does not publish which merchants count as "business essentials" or any cap, so check your first two statements for 5X credits before you route big vendor payments through it.

RuPay or Visa: pick one benefit

The two variants are not the same card:

  • RuPay links to UPI, so you can pay suppliers by QR. It does not get 5X on SaaS.
  • Visa gets 5X on SaaS subscriptions paid through Nuclei. It does not work on UPI.

Both carry the same ₹999 fee in our data. Choose by how you actually pay for things.

The fee, and the limit you start with

The annual fee is waived if you spend ₹2 lakh in an anniversary year, about ₹16,700 a month. Otherwise budget about ₹1,179 with GST.

One warning from Kotak users in general, not Biz Edge holders specifically: self-employed cardholders say Kotak will not raise a limit when you send a fresh ITR, and relies only on automated reviews. Ask for the limit your business needs when you apply. Users also report agents promising "lifetime free" on Kotak cards and fees showing up later; Biz Edge has a fee, so get any other promise in writing.

So, is Biz Edge worth ₹999?

Get it if you want work spends off your personal statement, you will cross ₹2 lakh a year, and you either pay vendors on UPI or buy SaaS through Nuclei. It is a tidy, low-cost business card.

Skip it if you are chasing high rewards. At 0.33% base, a personal cashback card like Amazon Pay ICICI often pays more, though users note a business card still helps with GST and ITR bookkeeping. Our business credit cards roundup lists other options.
