Frequently Asked Questions

Members of Kotak's Solitaire banking program who run a business. Kotak sets the relationship value needed; ask your relationship manager for the current threshold.

₹3,499: the number that decides this card

The Kotak Solitaire Business Credit Card costs nothing while you are in Kotak's Solitaire banking program. If your relationship value drops and you are moved out, the card carries a ₹3,499 annual fee. Everything about whether this card is worth holding comes back to that one number.

Inside the program, it is a free business card with a 1.99% forex markup, a small lounge allowance and good returns on travel booked through Kotak Unbox. Outside it, you are paying ₹3,499 + GST for a card whose base rewards are thin.

This is not the personal Kotak Solitaire Credit Card, which has zero forex and unlimited lounges, and not IndusInd's Indus Solitaire. Many reviews and Reddit threads mix the three up.

Points per ₹150, worth 50 paise each

Kotak counts rewards per ₹150, and each point is worth ₹0.50. That gives you three rates:

  • Flights and hotels booked through Kotak Unbox: 7 points per ₹150, about 2.33%.
  • Other domestic spends: 2 points per ₹150, about 0.67%.
  • Utilities, groceries, insurance, government payments and railways: 1 point per ₹150, about 0.33%, capped at 1,000 points a cycle.

International spends earn no points at all. The 1.99% markup is lower than the usual 3.5%, so the card still saves you money on foreign software bills or trips, but it does not reward them.

Would it earn back ₹3,499 on its own?

Run the numbers for a downgraded year. ₹3,499 plus GST comes to about ₹4,129. To earn that back you would need roughly:

  • ₹1,77,000 of Kotak Unbox travel at 2.33%, or
  • ₹6,20,000 of general business spend at 0.67%.

A small business booking ₹1 lakh of travel and putting ₹3 lakh of other spend on the card earns about ₹2,333 plus ₹2,000, which is just above the fee. Spend less on travel and you lose money. That is why users discussing Solitaire cards treat them as worth holding only when free.

Getting the card in the first place

The card comes through the Solitaire relationship, not an open application. Kotak sets the qualifying relationship value and does not state it for this card in our record, so ask your relationship manager for the current figure. It is a business card, so also ask what business proof Kotak needs.

The rest of the package is modest: 1 domestic lounge visit a quarter, 1 international visit a year, complimentary travel insurance, a 1% fuel surcharge waiver and offers on Google Workspace, AWS and Microsoft Azure.

Our call on Solitaire Business

Hold it if you are already a Solitaire member, run a business and book work travel through Kotak Unbox. It costs nothing and keeps business spend off your personal card.

Do not chase it as a standalone card. If you are close to the edge of the Solitaire threshold, ask how much notice Kotak gives before a downgrade, and decide in advance whether you would close it. If you want strong travel returns, users discussing Solitaire cards (mostly the personal card) compare them with Axis Atlas and prefer Atlas.
