Frequently Asked Questions

Between ₹0.11 and ₹0.25, depending on what you redeem for. Each redemption day also costs ₹99 + GST.

The catch: almost all the value is on Wednesdays

RBL Platinum Max costs ₹999 + GST to join and the same every year, about ₹1,179 with tax, and the product page shows no spend-based waiver. Ordinary spends earn just 2 points per ₹100. The two perks that can earn back the fee, accelerated dining and a 1+1 movie ticket, both work only on a Wednesday.

So the question is simple. Is Wednesday already your dinner-and-a-movie night? If yes, the card can pay for itself. If not, it mostly costs you money.

This is not Platinum Maxima (₹2,000, with a gated lounge visit) or Platinum Maxima Plus (₹2,500). Platinum Max has no lounge access at all.

What a Wednesday-heavy year looks like

  • Dining on Wednesdays earns 20 points per ₹100, capped at 1,000 points a month. That cap fills at ₹5,000 of Wednesday dining.
  • BookMyShow gives you a free second ticket worth up to ₹200, once a month, on a Wednesday.
  • Everything else eligible earns 2 points per ₹100.

At the best point value of ₹0.25, a year of maxed Wednesday dining is worth about ₹3,000, and 12 movie offers up to ₹2,400. Add ₹2 lakh of other spend (about ₹1,000) and the 4,000 welcome points in year one (about ₹1,000). That is up to ₹7,400 against ₹1,179 in fees, but only if you never miss a month.

RBL's page calls the dining benefit a "5% discount" in one spot. It is points, and 20 points per ₹100 equals 5% only at ₹0.25 a point. Some redemptions value points as low as ₹0.11.

The ₹99 that users complain about most

Every day you redeem points on RBL's rewards site costs ₹99 + GST, about ₹117. On 4,000 points worth ₹1,000, that takes 12%. At ₹0.11 a point it takes over a quarter. Save up and redeem everything on one day.

The exclusion list is also long. Education, insurance, utilities, rent and wallet loads stopped earning in November 2023. Fuel, railways, government, EMI and cash became ineligible in October 2024. Fuel does get a surcharge waiver of up to ₹100 a month on fills of ₹500 to ₹4,000.

Upgrade calls and getting out

Our sentiment report is thin on this exact card; most threads are about RBL in general. The pattern users describe is phone agents pushing paid upgrades with a fee they did not expect. Get the fee in writing before you agree to anything.

If you were upgraded into Platinum Max and want out, redeem points first, pay the balance to zero, ask for closure in writing and keep the no-dues letter.

Is RBL Platinum Max worth it?

Only for a regular Wednesday diner and moviegoer, or if you got it lifetime free. For anyone else, a straight cashback card like HSBC Live+ or the Cashback SBI Card gives more back with no day rules and no redemption fee.
