Frequently Asked Questions

Only if RBL confirms it in writing. The standard fee is ₹2,500 + GST a year, and many users were charged after being told the upgrade was free.

Maxima Plus in a minute

  • It costs ₹2,500 + GST a year, and RBL's current page shows no spend-based waiver.
  • The 10X categories (dining, entertainment, grocery, international) stop at 1,000 points a month, which you hit at about ₹10,000 of spend.
  • Three 10,000-point milestones and 2 lounge visits a quarter are where most of the value sits, and both need steady spending.

Three RBL cards share almost the same name. This page is Platinum Maxima Plus (₹2,500). Platinum Maxima costs ₹2,000 and Platinum Max costs ₹999. Fees, lounge rules and milestones differ, so check the exact name on your offer letter.

What the 1,000-point cap really pays

The card earns 10 points per ₹100 in its four bonus categories and 2 points per ₹100 elsewhere. RBL's own example on the product page values a point at about ₹0.25, so 10X works out to roughly 2.5%.

Here is a month that uses the bonus fully. You spend ₹6,000 on groceries, ₹3,000 on dining and ₹1,000 on movies. That earns 1,000 points, worth about ₹250, and the cap is now full. Another ₹15,000 of other spends earns 300 points, about ₹75. So ₹325 back on ₹25,000, around 1.3%.

Fuel, utilities, insurance, rent, education, wallet loads, government payments and EMI earn nothing. They also do not count toward milestones.

Three milestones against one fee

The milestones matter more than the monthly points. You get 10,000 points each at ₹2 lakh, ₹3.5 lakh and ₹5 lakh of eligible spend in a year. At ₹0.25, each one is worth about ₹2,500.

With GST, the fee is about ₹2,950. Reach the first milestone and use the monthly BookMyShow offer (one free ticket up to ₹200 when you buy two or more), and the card roughly pays for itself. Fall short of ₹2 lakh and it does not.

Two other points to plan around:

  • Lounge access is 2 domestic visits a quarter for the primary cardholder, only after ₹35,000 of spend in the previous quarter.
  • Redeeming costs ₹99 + GST per redemption day. Save up and redeem in one go.

The "free upgrade" call

The sentiment report on this card is negative, and the main reason is how it is sold. In 8 of 15 threads, users say an RBL agent pitched Maxima Plus as a pre-approved lifetime-free upgrade, often to ShopRite holders, and a fee showed up later. Six threads describe being moved to Maxima Plus after RBL discontinued a co-branded card (users name the RBL Zomato card) and then paying ₹1,499 to ₹2,500 a year with no waiver.

"Pre-approved" means you qualify. It does not mean free. Ask for the fee in writing before you accept, and if you never wanted the card, request closure in writing. One user in the report describes a fee on a card that was never activated.

Our take on Maxima Plus

Keep it if you have it lifetime free in writing, or if you spend ₹2 lakh or more a year outside the excluded categories and see a film most months. Then the milestones and movie offer cover the fee.

If you are a ShopRite holder looking at the upgrade SMS, most users in the report say stay on ShopRite. If you travel abroad, users prefer RBL World Safari for its zero forex markup. Issuer background is in our RBL Bank guide.
