Frequently Asked Questions

Users say that route was removed. RBL's page now waives the ₹500 + GST fee on ₹1.5 lakh of annual spend or for BookMyShow Superstar customers, so check your Superstar status in the app.

Play vs the other movie cards

The movie cards users compare it with give buy-one-get-one tickets with no spend target. RBL Play, the BookMyShow co-brand that Reddit calls "BMS Play", works differently. You earn a ₹500 BookMyShow benefit in every billing cycle where you spend ₹5,000 on the card, plus ₹100 of food and drinks when you buy a movie ticket.

That difference is the whole decision:

  • IndusInd Legend and ICICI Sapphiro give BOGO movie offers without a monthly spend target. Users prefer them if you do not want to chase a number every month.
  • Play costs only ₹500 + GST a year, but you have to earn the voucher, every cycle.

It is also not the PVR INOX Kotak Credit Card, which is a different bank's movie card.

What ₹5,000 a month actually gets you

Hit ₹5,000 in a cycle, use the ₹500 benefit and the ₹100 F&B value, and you get ₹600 back. That is 12% on the ₹5,000. Do it every month and it adds up to ₹7,200 of movie value a year against a ₹590 fee with GST. Users call it a strong card for couples who see a movie most months.

The welcome benefit is another ₹500 BookMyShow discount, if you make a purchase within 30 days of getting the card. It is valid for 60 days after your first statement and only on the paid card.

Spends that do not count, and the two-ticket rule

This is where most complaints sit. Ten threads in our sentiment report say utility bills, wallet loads, rent, insurance, government payments and gift vouchers do not count toward the ₹5,000. Five threads say the movie discount works only when you book two or more tickets together. Both are user-reported, not on the bank page we checked, so read RBL's current offer terms.

What works, according to users: put quick-commerce groceries and everyday shopping on Play early in the billing cycle, then switch cards once you cross ₹5,000. The target runs by billing cycle, not calendar month.

The fee waiver changed

RBL's page waives the fee on ₹1.5 lakh of annual spend, and also for BookMyShow Superstar customers. Six threads say the old route, about 10 BookMyShow bookings a year for Superstar status, no longer works, and a December 2024 thread is titled "RBL play credit card no longer LTF?". If you only spend ₹5,000 a month, you will reach ₹60,000 a year and pay the ₹590. That is still less than one month's benefit.

Other details: a 1% fuel surcharge waiver on fills of ₹500 to ₹4,000, up to ₹100 a month. There is no lounge access.

Who RBL Play pays off for

Apply if you watch movies as a pair most months and can route ₹5,000 of groceries and shopping through the card each cycle. At ₹500 a year, 12% back in movie value is a strong return.

Do not apply if you watch alone, rely on bills to hit spend targets, or want movie perks without tracking anything. A no-strings BOGO card like IndusInd Legend suits you better.
