Frequently Asked Questions

No. SBI Card issues its own Tata Neu Infinity card with a different fee waiver and a ₹75,000 quarterly lounge gate. The HDFC card needs ₹50,000 a quarter.

Infinity or the cheaper Tata Neu Plus?

HDFC sells two Tata Neu cards, and most people deciding on Infinity are really asking whether it beats Tata Neu Plus. The difference in one line: Infinity costs ₹1,000 more a year and pays 5% instead of 2% on Tata Neu brands.

  • Infinity: ₹1,499 + GST, 5% NeuCoins on Tata Neu and partner brands, 1.5% elsewhere, up to 1.5% on UPI, lounges.
  • Plus: ₹499 + GST, 2% on Tata brands, 1% elsewhere, up to 1% on UPI.

The extra 3% on Tata spends covers the ₹1,180 fee gap (with GST) once you spend about ₹3,300 a month on BigBasket, Tata 1mg, Croma and other Tata Neu brands.

One more thing to check: SBI Card also sells a Tata Neu Infinity SBI Card with the same name but a different lounge rule. This page is the HDFC card.

Where the 10% comes from on Tata Neu Infinity HDFC Bank

The card pays 5% in NeuCoins on non-EMI spends with Tata Neu and partner Tata brands. Shop through the Tata Neu app on select categories with NeuPass and you can add up to 5% more, which is the 10% users talk about. One NeuCoin is worth ₹1 inside Tata Neu.

A typical month: ₹8,000 on BigBasket and 1mg earns 400 NeuCoins. ₹15,000 of other card spends at 1.5% earns 225 more. That is ₹625 a month, about ₹7,500 a year. Spend ₹3 lakh in the year before renewal and HDFC waives the ₹1,499 fee too.

Fuel, wallet loads, rent, government payments, online gaming, gift cards and vouchers earn nothing.

The chai problem with UPI

UPI rewards need the RuPay variant. On it, you get 0.5% from HDFC on any UPI app, or 1.5% if you pay through the Tata Neu UPI ID, with all UPI rewards capped at 500 NeuCoins a month.

The catch, from the most upvoted thread on this card: users report HDFC rounds NeuCoins down to a whole coin on every transaction. At 1.5%, a ₹66 payment earns 0.99 coins, which becomes zero. Anything under about ₹67 earns nothing. Through another UPI app at 0.5%, a payment needs to be ₹200 to earn a single coin. Use the card on UPI for grocery and pharmacy bills, not for tea and snacks. HDFC does not publish this rule, so treat it as user-reported.

The HDFC core-card question

This is the dealbreaker that comes up most on Reddit. Users in 8 threads say HDFC refused them a core card such as Millennia, Regalia Gold or Infinia while they held Tata Neu Infinity, and several closed the card for that reason. HDFC does not publish this as a rule, and some users have converted a co-brand to a core card. But if Regalia Gold or Infinia is your long-term plan, get the core card first.

Lounges, forex and expiry

  • Domestic lounge: 2 vouchers a quarter, unlocked by ₹50,000 of spend in that calendar quarter.
  • International lounge: 4 visits a year.
  • Forex markup: 2%, lower than the usual 3.5%.
  • NeuCoins expire after 12 months, per our tracker. Spend them as you go.

Is Tata Neu Infinity worth it?

Yes, if you spend ₹5,000 or more a month on Tata Neu brands and can get the card first-year free or lifetime free; users report HDFC offers both during campaigns and on written request. It is one of the best grocery and pharmacy cards in India at that level.

Think twice if you mostly pay small amounts by UPI, rarely shop on Tata Neu, or want an HDFC core card soon. For non-Tata online spends, users prefer SBI Cashback for its plain statement credit.
