HSBC Credit Cards (2026): Caps, Fees and Who Gets Approved

Looking at an HSBC credit card usually starts with a 10% cashback headline and ends with a rejection email about your PIN code. That is frustrating, and it is common. HSBC sells only a handful of cards in India, but each one has a cap, a waiver or a banking gate that decides whether it pays you back. This page helps you read those numbers before you apply.

My honest take on HSBC credit cards

HSBC's range is small, so the choice is less about the name and more about three numbers: the monthly cashback cap, the fee waiver, and whether HSBC even serves your PIN code.

Start with the cap. HSBC RuPay Cashback pays 10% on dining, food delivery and grocery, but all cashback stops at ₹400 a month. That fills at ₹4,000 of spend, so the most it can pay is ₹4,800 a year against a fee of ₹499 + GST, about ₹589. HSBC Live+ has one combined ₹1,200 cap across dining, delivery, grocery, shopping and utilities, which fills at ₹12,000 a month. Above that, plan for 0%, as users reported under the older cap, and move the overflow to another card.

Then the waiver. Live+ costs ₹999 + GST, waived above ₹2 lakh a year. HSBC TravelOne costs ₹4,999 + GST, waived only above ₹8 lakh, about ₹66,700 a month. Most people will pay these fees, so judge the card with the fee included.

The mistake people make is reading old praise. HSBC reworked Live+ on 26 July 2026: Amazon and Flipkart dropped to 1.5%, and international spends now earn nothing. Our Live+ devaluation note and Live+ MCC update cover the detail.

And approval is the real wall. Users report rejections when their home PIN code is outside HSBC's serviced areas, even with an eligible employer. Check serviceability first.

HSBC lifetime free credit card: there is one

HSBC RuPay Platinum is the only HSBC card in our records with no joining or annual fee. It earns 2 reward points per ₹150, including on UPI, and waives the fuel surcharge up to ₹3,000 a year. HSBC does not state a point value in what we checked, so treat it as a free UPI card, not a rewards engine. If an agent says Live+ is lifetime free, users warn that it is not. Compare it with other banks in our lifetime free credit cards list.

HSBC Platinum and Premier lounge access

RuPay Platinum lists no lounge benefit. The cheapest HSBC card with lounges is RuPay Cashback: 2 domestic visits a quarter and 2 international visits a year, with no spend condition stated. Live+ now gives 2 domestic visits a year, plus one international visit a year from 1 September 2026. TravelOne gives 6 domestic and 4 international a year. At the top, HSBC Premier gives unlimited domestic and international access plus 8 international guest visits a year; see our HSBC Premier lounge guide. Other banks are in the lounge access directory.

HSBC Premier credit card benefits, and the gate

Premier is only for existing qualified HSBC Premier banking customers. Once in, you get 3 reward points per ₹100 with no expiry, 1:1 transfers to airline and hotel programmes, a 0.99% forex markup and 20,000 welcome points. HSBC's product page shows no fee amounts; users report no annual fee while Premier status holds, so confirm it in writing. Do not move your salary just for this card. The HSBC Taj card sits above it at ₹1,10,000 + GST, about ₹1,29,800 a year, with no waiver stated.

HSBC RuPay Platinum. It has no joining or annual fee and works on UPI.

How do I apply for an HSBC credit card?

Apply on HSBC India's site, now at hsbc.bank.in, and expect a video KYC step. For eligibility and charges, read our HSBC issuer guide.

This is my honest read, not formal financial advice. HSBC changed Live+ this year, so check the current terms before you apply.
