What changed in December 2025

RBL's own page for the Popcorn Credit Card carries a notice: from 20 December 2025, existing RBL BookMyShow Popcorn cards "will be transitioned". The details went to cardholders by email, and the public page does not say what the card moves to. If you already hold Popcorn, read that email or ask RBL before you plan around the terms below. If you are applying now, ask which version you will get.

This page covers RBL Popcorn, the ₹1,000 card. It is not the RBL Play Credit Card (₹500) or the RBL Blockbuster Credit Card (₹3,000). All three are BookMyShow-linked, and most Reddit posts about "the RBL BookMyShow card" are about Play.

Two tickets for ₹5,000, and nothing above it

Popcorn has no points. It pays for crossing two spend bars:

  • ₹5,000 of eligible spend in a billing month gets you 2 movie tickets on BookMyShow, up to ₹250 each, ₹500 at most. You must book both in one transaction.
  • ₹2,500 of eligible spend in a week (Monday to Sunday) gets you ₹25 cashback, but only if you claim it. From Tuesday, scan the QR code on the back of the card and confirm with your mobile number, the last 2 digits of the card and an OTP, by the next Monday.

Here is the maths. Spread ₹10,000 a month evenly across four weeks and you get ₹500 in tickets plus about ₹100 in weekly cashback: roughly 6%. Put ₹20,000 on it and you still get around ₹600, so the rate halves. Nothing is paid above the bars. The annual fee is ₹1,000 + GST, about ₹1,180, so you need three good movie months a year just to break even. The bank page states no fee waiver; one long-time holder on Reddit says theirs has been waived with ₹5,000 of spend every month, but that is not a published rule.

The spends that do not count

This is the complaint that comes up most in the threads we read. RBL excludes fuel and auto, utilities, insurance, railways, rent, education, wallets, government services, Bills2Pay, cash, EMI and several other categories from both milestones. Users describe "spending ₹5,000" and still missing the tickets because part of it was a bill or a wallet load.

Two more things to plan for. Your billing month runs from statement date to statement date, not the calendar month. And BookMyShow's convenience fees are not covered, so the real saving is a little under ₹500.

Popcorn or Play?

Both use the same ₹5,000 monthly bar. Play costs ₹500 in our records and adds a ₹100 food and beverage benefit; Popcorn costs ₹1,000 and adds the ₹25 weekly cashback instead. If someone tells you about a free popcorn voucher, they mean Play. Check which card your offer letter names.

So, should you get RBL Popcorn?

Get it if you go to the movies as a couple at least once a month and already spend ₹5,000 on groceries, quick commerce or shopping that you can route to it early in the cycle. Stop using it once you cross the bar.

Skip it if you mostly watch alone, since the two-ticket rule makes the benefit useless. Users who go to PVR or INOX more than anywhere else prefer a cinema co-brand, and solo moviegoers in our sentiment lean towards the IndusInd EazyDiner card.
