Frequently Asked Questions

Spend ₹10 lakh in the card year and SBI reverses the next annual fee. That is about ₹83,000 a month.

SBI Card ELITE in three lines

  • It costs ₹4,999 + GST a year, about ₹5,899, and earns only about 0.5% on ordinary spends.
  • What pays for it is the extras: up to ₹6,000 a year of movie tickets, 8 domestic and 6 international lounge visits with no spend target, 5X on dining and groceries, and a 1.99% forex markup.
  • The fee is reversed only at ₹10 lakh of annual spend, so most holders either pay it or got the card lifetime free.

This page covers the standard SBI Card ELITE, not SBI Card ELITE Advantage, Miles ELITE, IndiGo SBI Card ELITE or the bank co-brand ELITE cards.

The movie benefit does most of the work

Users mention the movie tickets more than anything else. ELITE gives free BookMyShow tickets worth up to ₹6,000 a year, which holders describe as ₹500 off a month. Use it every month and it covers most of the fee by itself. Skip a few months and the maths gets worse fast. It works on the primary card only, not on add-ons.

Where 5X helps, and where it does not

All rates are per ₹100, and 4 points make ₹1.

  • Dining, groceries and departmental stores: 10 points, about 2.5%. Our data shows the 5X bonus capped at 10,000 points a month; check the MITC.
  • Everything else: 2 points, about 0.5%.
  • Fuel: no points. You get a 1% surcharge waiver, capped at ₹250 a statement cycle.

Here is a year that justifies the fee. ₹20,000 a month on dining and groceries earns about ₹6,000 in points. Add the full ₹6,000 of movie tickets and you are at ₹12,000 of value before lounges. Milestones add more if you spend big: 10,000 bonus points each at ₹3 lakh and ₹4 lakh, and 15,000 each at ₹5 lakh and ₹8 lakh, up to 50,000 points, about ₹12,500.

Lounges with no spend gate

You get 2 domestic lounge visits a quarter and 6 international visits a year through Priority Pass. No minimum spend is listed, which is uncommon now. One thing to watch: in India, show the ELITE card itself at the lounge. Users who used Priority Pass at Indian lounges report being charged for the visit. The free ELITE cards going around in 2026

A new pattern this year: several Reddit users, many of them students, say SBI gave them ELITE lifetime free through camps at their college, sometimes with a ₹1 lakh limit. If you got one of these, the case for keeping it is simple, because the movies and lounges cost you nothing.

The other side of this is agents promising "lifetime free" or "free after six months" and the ₹4,999 fee showing up anyway. Users raise this often. Only trust the welcome letter and your first statement.

Keep it, pay for it, or skip it?

Free, yes, easily. Keep it for movies, lounges and trips abroad at 1.99%.

At full fee, only if you will use the movie benefit every month and spend steadily on dining and groceries. If most of your spending is online shopping, the Cashback SBI Card returns more for a smaller fee.
