If you picked RBL Platinum ShopSmart partly for airport lounge access, that benefit no longer exists. RBL discontinued it from 1 July 2025. Before that, the card gave 2 domestic visits a year, at most one a quarter, after ₹15,000 of spend in the previous quarter. Some listings, and some promotional text on RBL's own page, still mention lounges. They are out of date.
What remains is a ₹499 + GST card with two real benefits: 5% on groceries up to ₹250 a month, and a monthly BookMyShow buy-one-get-one worth up to ₹200. For a regular moviegoer who shops at a supermarket, that is still enough to keep it.
The 5% stops at ₹250 a month, which you hit at ₹5,000 of grocery spend. The yearly maximum is ₹3,000. Spend ₹10,000 on groceries and you still get ₹250.
The cashback also arrives as reward points, not a statement credit. Users in the report say the "5%" works out closer to 2.5% to 3% once points are converted, and they report a ₹99 + GST charge each time they redeem. RBL's page for this card states neither a point value nor that fee, so check the rupee value on the redemption screen before you confirm.
Users say offline supermarkets such as DMart and Reliance Smart reliably count as grocery. Quick-commerce apps are less certain. Rent, utilities, insurance, education, wallet loads, fuel, EMI and government payments earn nothing.
The BookMyShow offer is 1+1 on any one day of the month, up to ₹200 off. Use it twelve times a year and it is worth up to ₹2,400, close to what the grocery side pays.
Here is a realistic year. You spend ₹4,000 a month on groceries and book two tickets once a month. That earns ₹2,400 in grocery points and saves up to ₹2,400 on movies. Take off one redemption fee of about ₹117. You keep roughly ₹4,700, against a fee of about ₹589, which is reversed anyway if you spend ₹50,000 in the year. New cardholders also get a ₹500 gift voucher after paying the fee and spending ₹2,000 in the first 30 days.
RBL's Platinum ShopDaily has the same fee, the same 5% grocery rate and cap, the same voucher and the same ₹50,000 reversal. It just lacks the movie offer. If you are choosing between the two, ShopSmart wins.
Apply if you spend up to ₹5,000 a month at offline supermarkets, see a film most months, and can redeem points once or twice a year. Then the card returns several thousand rupees for a fee that is easy to reverse.
Skip it if lounge access matters to you, or if you want plain cashback with no points. Users in the report point to the HSBC Live+ for direct grocery cashback and a higher cap. More grocery picks are in our grocery credit cards guide.
