Frequently Asked Questions

Only government employees, according to IndusInd's product page. Keep proof of government employment ready when you apply.

The catch: ₹200 a cycle, and only for government staff

Two things decide this card before anything else. First, Samman is only for government employees, so most people cannot get it. Second, its 1% cashback stops at ₹200 per statement cycle, which you reach at ₹20,000 of retail spend.

If you are a government employee who wants a simple RuPay card for daily UPI payments, it still does that job well enough. Just do not expect it to earn much.

Samman is not the same card as the lifetime-free IndusInd Platinum RuPay, even though most Reddit threads in our sample are about that card, not Samman.

What the 1% really works out to

  • Spend ₹10,000 in a cycle: ₹100 back, a full 1%.
  • Spend ₹20,000: ₹200 back, still 1%.
  • Spend ₹40,000: still ₹200, so your rate drops to 0.5%.

The most you can earn in a year is about ₹2,400. Our record does not say whether UPI payments count as "retail spends" for the 1%, so check your first statement after a few UPI payments.

The other benefits are small: one BookMyShow movie ticket up to ₹200 every 6 months, a 1% fuel surcharge waiver and a railway surcharge waiver.

What does it cost?

Our CMS record shows ₹199 a year, but IndusInd's product page does not publish the fee. Ask for the MITC before you sign. If ₹199 is right, you earn it back after about ₹19,900 of eligible spend in a year.

What users say, and the limits of it

There is almost no Reddit discussion of Samman by name. The threads in our sentiment report are about IndusInd's RuPay cards in general. Users like having a RuPay card for small UPI payments, and complain about BookMyShow offers that run out within seconds and IndusInd app outages. Treat that as a hint about the bank, not a review of this card.

Is Samman worth it?

Yes, if you are a government employee, spend up to ₹20,000 a cycle and mainly want credit on UPI. It is simple and cheap to hold.

No, if you spend more than that or want real rewards. A card like Tata Neu Plus HDFC Bank pays better on UPI, and if you are not a government employee you will need a different card anyway.
